Toyota is the brand most commonly mentioned
There is a notable trend with Toyota, which has six representatives on this list.
The biggest shock is that Volkswagen Polo drivers have been established as the worst drivers with 2668 fatal crashes, almost 400 more than the Toyota Hilux, which is in second place.
Nissan, BMW, and Isuzu also make the list with one representative each.
Study finds Quantum bakkies & Polos involved in many fatal accidents
A study by South Africa’s Road Traffic Management Corporation found that Volkswagen Polos and Toyota Quantums, aged between five and 10 years, were involved in the most fatal crashes when ranked by vehicle make, model, and age.
“A total of 48 330 vehicles were involved in 37 583 fatal crashes with 45 232 deaths during the period according to data on the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s national crash data management system,” the RTMC said in a statement.
